Known for the maximalism of its CEO, Jack Dorsey, Twitter is constantly adding features related to Bitcoin (BTC) and cryptocurrencies in general. Now, the platform is reportedly looking into the integration of non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

NFTs: the new gem coveted by Twitter

NFTs have seen unprecedented growth since the beginning of 2021. They have an average volume of more than 2 billion dollars monthly. Obviously, in the face of this craze, many companies are trying to ride the wave.

In early September, Mada Aflak, a developer at Twitter, announced that she was working on integrating NFTs into the Twitter platform. Her goal was to allow users to use their tokens as profile pictures or banners.

On 24 October, it was the turn of Jane Manchun Wong, a specialist in reverse engineering, to present the progress of the project.

A new “Collectibles” tab will be introduced on each user’s profile, according to the screenshots shared. It will be possible to browse through the various NFTs held by the user and obtain information, such as their description, creator, or information about the collection to which they belong.

Twitter’s decision already criticised

Every innovation has its critics. These announcements are no exception to the rule and have already caused dissatisfaction. This is notably the case of Nathan Lawrence, an engineer at Apple, who did not fail to express his reticence about this feature:

“Honestly, I’ll probably stop using this app if it turns into an NFT gallery.”

Although he has no preconceptions about “people who make art in this way”, it is the “constant sales pitches” that have become intolerable to him. In fact, he regrets that there is no emphasis on combating misinformation.

“We spent years begging Twitter to provide us with features to fight misinformation. We finally got Birdwatch, which is better than I expected, but so hidden that I think most people don’t know it exists.”

For his part, Jack Dorsey continues to become an increasingly important part of the Bitcoin ecosystem. Last week, for example, he announced that he was working with his teams on the design of a BTC miner that would compete with the ASIC giants.
