Time Magazine has named Ethereum creator Vitalik Buterin one of the most influential people of 2021. In doing so, it is helping to bring the world up to speed on cryptocurrencies by highlighting a big name in the cryptosphere.

A top crypto influencer

This is a big moment, Vitalik Buterin, Creator of Ethereum, has finally made Time Magazine‘s list of the 100 most influential people of 2021. Time Magazine has categorized the big names of 2021 as pioneers, leaders, innovators, titans, and disruptors.

Buterin ranks alongside Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang in the innovator’s category. Time’s list includes musicians, leaders, activists, princes (such as Prince Harry), singer-songwriter Billie Eilish, and Olympian Simone Biles.

Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian had mentioned Buterin’s role in building Ethereum, with an ether that is now the second-largest cryptocurrency in terms of market capitalization. Furthermore, the Ethereum network is the fertile ground on which DeFi and NFTs are developing.

Ohanian even considers the birth of Ethereum as the origin of “new ways to exploit blockchain technology”.

An industry that shadows fiat currencies

On 14 September, Time also published its list of the 100 most influential companies of 2021, which includes the Digital Currency Group (DCG) and Coinbase.

Digital Currency Group was ranked among the biggest disruptors, along with Tesla, Huawei, Shopify, and Clubhouse. According to Time, DCG is demystifying cryptocurrency for investors through its subsidiaries, its asset manager, Grayscale, and its cryptocurrency information site, CoinDesk.

Time Magazine is now taking a close look at the cryptosphere. That’s right! In March 2021, it has already auctioned off 3 NFTs inspired by its covers. The collection revolves around the theme “Is _ Dead?”.

  • 1 NFT based on “Is God Dead?”, the original cover from April 8, 1966.
  • 1 NFT inspired by “Is Truth Dead?”, the cover from April 3, 2017
  • 1 NFT based on “Is Fiat Dead?”, the cover of March 29 and April 5, 2021.

During the week of 6 September, Time Magazine announced its partnership with Crypto.com to allow payment for its 18-month digital subscriptions in cryptocurrencies. It is then offering a 10% cashback to its customers paying in CRO, the platform’s native cryptocurrency.

Ethereum continues to grow and its ecosystem is popular in the blockchain world. And the future looks bright: according to this Wall Street figure, it’s only a matter of time before ether dethrones bitcoin.
