Core Scientific, a US company specializing in blockchain and cryptocurrency mining, announced the purchase of 17,595 Antminer S19s from Chinese manufacturer Bitmain.

According to a press release, this investment will enable Core Scientific to strengthen its position as the largest crypto-miner operator in North America.

Core Scientific announced that it has once again partnered with Bitmain Technologies to facilitate the purchase of 17,595 Bitcoin operating units […] Core Scientific’s agreement with Bitmain represents the largest number of S19 machines purchased by a single blockchain company,” wrote Core Scientific.

Released last February, Bitmain’s S19 miners are equipped with a new “latest generation” chip, enabling an energy efficiency of 23J/TH for a chopping rate of 95 TH/s.

The brand new ASICs will be deployed in Core Scientific’s US data centres over the next four months.

We are confident that our latest-generation Antminer 19 series miners will operate at optimal performance in the various Core Scientific data centres in the US. The Antminer S19 will be used to improve the stability and security of the crypto-money network and advance Core Scientific’s efforts towards growing its business in the digital mining industry,” commented Irene Gao, Bitmain’s Antminer Sales Director for America.

Founded in Seattle in 2017, Core Scientific now has five mining farms that can provide 381 MW of power and, following this order, the company aims to rapidly increase its capacity to 450 MW.
